An Appreciation for Talent
Welcome to “From the Bench,” our new blog and part of the new Benchmark IT website. I’d like to start off by musing a bit about my experience during this process and how it’s renewed my appreciation for the power of talent and teamwork.
It’s been a whirlwind year of change and growth for Benchmark IT. With that have come several large projects: new branding, logo, website, blog, new office space (stay tuned!) and several other important growth initiatives. Each of these is a project in itself, and we’ve employed a number of professionals to accomplish them all. In many ways the process has embodied a typical Software Development Life Cycle: Begin with a Business Analysis– interview stakeholders, analyze marketplace position and the IT Talent and Recruiting space overall. Enter into the Selection Process– choose our development and design partners, appoint a PM and other specialists. Begin the Development Phase– work Iteratively to move the project forward. Evaluate risk and trim the scope as needed.
I’d like to think we operated in an “agile” fashion but often felt a little clumsy and clueless along the way. I discovered that though I’m pretty good at some things, I am no writer, no designer, and certainly no SEO or Social Media expert! Thankfully with the expertise of our team members I found each project was supported and moved forward by each member’s respective strengths and the team’s collective drive toward the end goal. We did extensive QA, thought we were almost done and discovered that instead of recruiting for a Linux specialist we were recruiting for Linus! Well I guess Mr. Torvalds wouldn’t mind, but I certainly saw the value of QA first-hand (thank you, Allison!).
I look forward to this blog helping pull the technologists in our marketplace together over the coming months to create useful interaction and sharing of helpful, interesting and fun information. Thanks for reading and being part of the team!
