How did you get into technology staffing?
I have a unique story of how I got into the technology staffing industry. Many times, people fall into the staffing industry by chance or through a connection. As a result, they end up remaining in this industry because they love it. Before working with Benchmark IT, I worked in financial services with someone who had a close connection with our President, John Bemis. I wanted a career change and connected with John to discuss the technology staffing industry. I learned more about what it meant to be a recruiter. From there I decided to take a leap of faith with Benchmark IT. That was around seven years ago, and I have loved working with Benchmark and being a technical recruiter since.
As a Senior Technical Recruiter, I strive to fill open roles with top-quality candidates. Besides seeking out great candidates, I spend time checking in with the candidates and clients I’ve worked with. It’s become even more critical during the COVID-19 pandemic that we make sure our candidates are happy, healthy, and on the right track with their assignments.
What do you think is the most exciting thing about working with clients and staff on their technology?
When I first began working in the technology staffing industry, I was concerned that I wasn’t very knowledgeable about many different technologies and industry terminology. After talking with several candidates and clients over the phone, I learned so much about their positions and interests. This allowed me to become fluent in various IT languages, platforms, and requirements. It’s great to fill roles that I was not previously aware of. Throughout the recruiting process, I learn so much about what’s needed to be successful in a specific role. I’m continually learning while I’m working, and this has increased my interest in technology, which has been very exciting.
Not only has my role at Benchmark IT been exciting, but it has also been very rewarding. One of the best aspects of my job is developing relationships with clients and candidates. Our recruiting process is very thorough. I learn a lot about the candidate. This includes their professional and personal background. I get familiar with their personality, interests, the career path they want to take, and more. Building these relationships with candidates makes for a great work experience. This is specially rewarding when it’s time to place them at another assignment, and you get to work with them again. It’s both exciting and satisfying to help a candidate get their dream job. And it’s great that I can do that daily.
What is it about Benchmark IT that makes you want to come into work every day?
For me, the people I work with make me want to come to work every day. We are a smaller staffing firm, and everyone in the team has been working with each other for several years. This creates a really friendly work environment. We all get along and work really well with each other. The staff at Benchmark IT genuinely respects each other and wants everyone to succeed in their roles. Even now that we are working remotely, we still talk daily. We keep the same positive work environment from home as it was in the office, and that makes Benchmark a great company to work for.
