Network Engineer

Network Engineer:

Our direct client, a global financial services firm, based in Stamford is seeking a Network Engineer who has the experience and knowledge necessary to help maintain and evaluate network systems and communications. The position is also responsible for trouble- shooting network issues as well as assisting with network architecture design. Candidate must have extensive knowledge of Internet, computer routers, switches and firewall. Intermediate level experience (3-5 years) with Cisco networks (Routing, Switching) and firewalls (Cisco ASA and Palo Alto) are desired.

Essential Duties

  • Support the Senior Network Engineer in managing the global LAN and WAN network
  • Designing, deploying, patching and maintaining network systems in best practices fashion
  • Assist in documenting and troubleshooting complex web and network workloads and topology
  • Sustain the business by monitoring networking activity and maintaining existing equipment
  • Respond to network connectivity issues and resolve any wired or wireless communication issues.
  • Collaborate with third-party support and service vendors to ensure that the network stays operational
  • Maintain relationships with other IT teams and provide and promote advanced level troubleshooting and support
  • Support Engineering team with various infrastructure projects

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

  • Intermediate experience with Cisco Routers, Switches and Firewalls
  • Entry-level or better experience in working with Palo Alto firewalls
  • Entry-level or better experience in working with Aruba Wireless networks
  • Entry-level or better experience in working with hardware load balancers (ideally NetScaler ADC)
  • Understanding of Microsoft IIS and Microsoft and Linux Operating Systems
  • Knowledge of virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, Citrix, and Microsoft )
  • Entry-level experience working with cloud technologies (Azure)

Technical Skills

  • Knowledge of IP networking (e.g., Switching, Routing protocols, OSPF, EIGRP, BGP, TCP/IP protocols, SNMP, ARP etc.)
  • Knowledge of wireless networking, including WLAN controller and access point experience (i.e. 802.1X/EAP/LEAP with TKIP)
  • Demonstrated ability with vendor-specific routers & IP switches (e.g., Cisco Nexus, Catalyst, ISR2, Arista helpful)
  • Demonstrated expertise with vendor-specific security technologies (e.g., Cisco ASA/Firepower, VPN, Palo Alto Networks helpful)
  • Understanding related network technologies and underlying infrastructure requirements (especially DNS, DHCP, AD, LDAP and Citrix)
  • Knowledge of security risks for various operating systems and devices
  • Knowledge of network management and monitoring systems (e.g., SolarWinds, PRTG, ExtraHop).
  • Excellent documentation skills and demonstrated expertise with Visio
  • Experience in analyzing packet traces of TCP/IP traffic
  • Ability to analyze and interpret data, communicate in writing in a clear manner.
  • Practical network troubleshooting skills
  • Creative analytical problem solving abilities


  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • 2-4 years networking and Datacenter experience
  • CompTIA networking certifications preferred
  • Having or working toward CCNA or CCNP certification
