Sr. Data Architect

Our direct client in the NYC Metro area is interested in hiring an experienced Senior Data Architect to work as part of our software and application development teams to lead all data-related architecture matters for large projects delivering or maintaining cloud-based modern data warehouses. The candidate will be accountable for the architecture that defines the data layer (i.e. design, storage, and data ingestion/consumption)  and most importantly to effect the successful technical design and implementation of data architecture artifacts in accordance with the client's IT Standards and Global practices.





Responsible to plan and define the successful implementation of data warehouses for global consumption along with their corresponding data-related architecture artifacts, the role will:


  • Be dedicated to the assigned projects as their trusted advisor and representative in any Data Architecture related matter as required


  • Define, plan and monitor the technical alignment of Global/Regional/Local Data Architecture related artifacts with respect to supporting cloud-based modern data warehouses.


  • Guide and advise in the determination of requirements for all aspects of Data Architecture (governance, life-cycle management, interchange, etc.) including full documentation in adherence to the Solution Architecture Development Methodology


  • Accountability of all data analysis activities, data requirements gathering, business rules/transformations and their corresponding documentation while working alongside with Business Data Analyst, Business Analyst and Solutions Architect(s)


  • Conceptualize flexible logical models that reflect the business and systems as identified during the data analysis phase to support business immediate need and future use (e.g. common data model, data quality rules, data marts for aggregation, etc.)


  • Convert logical into physical models of data warehouses for implementation by other resources dedicated to warehouse implementations despite the underlying technology (e.g. SQL Server, Azure Synapse, etc.).  Physical model must include (but not limited to):
  • Ability to generate full DDL scripts to create physical objects
  • Extensibility and flexibility for phased or future deliverables
  • Capacity planning and guidelines for infrastructure required to support initial deployment and future growth
  • Hooks for data governance and other compliance controls


  • Work with other project resources (analysts, data engineers, developers [front, backend and report]) to help them align to the Data Architecture
  • Warehouse optimization (data flow, traffic, volume, etc.)
  • Flexible and maintainable ETL solutions that meet the business need and fully automate all data ingestion processes


  • Plan and facilitate the artifacts required to effect data interchange between systems and build corresponding consensus with the business and IT organizations involved.


  • Provide guidelines for Extract Load and Transfer procedures to be implemented in order to populate the new data architecture


  • Review and audit code authored by the team to ensure compliance with best practices and project specific rules


  • Provide knowledge transfer to Engineering and Support personnel as needed and serve as Subject Matter Expert for Level 4 support escalations







  • Experienced team manager and providing team leadership define work tasks, set priorities, ensure proper utilization, monitor and report on progress
  • Experience in a global team matrix environment
  • Experience with architecting enterprise solutions supporting large data warehouses (e.g. star schemas and OLAP cubes) in SQL Server
  • Capable of forward thinking and of moving strategic plans into action
  • Demonstrated experience mentoring, coaching, developing team members and being a role model
  • Envisage, portray and embody the big data picture – account for the perspective of the entire organization, standards for data management, systems and interfaces to data sources, all the while contrasting current state to recommended/desired state
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to document and communicate technical information to IT Leadership, yet be able to manage discussions with the business
  • International experience with the ability to work in a diverse work environment across cultures and time-zones; available to travel (internationally) at short notice and host/attend international calls outside of standard working hours






Technical Skills & Qualifications:

  • Strong experience as a technical leader on successful large programs with the ability to manage multi-disciplined teams in a global IT organization.
  • Experience with macro and micro level data organization, related data models and standard architectural artifacts
  • Experience with Enterprise level Data Architecture programs, defining Data Architecture views starting with Conceptual, into Logical, and Physical. Experienced in defining Data Architecture Governance programs, including Ownership, Data Lifecycle process, Data Modeling, data dictionaries. Experience working on Integration programs, knowledge of Industry data formats
  • Maintain updated knowledge of technology standards, industry trends, and emerging data technologies especially as it pertains to Microsoft Azure
  • Ideally with prior experience working at Big 4, Investment Banking or Audit
  • Knowledge of application, database, system, and network design
  • Confidence in dealing with staff, managers and partners across the firm
  • Proficient communication skills with non-technical audiences
  • Good knowledge of regional issues and structures, ability to work with people from many different cultural backgrounds

Description of level of Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college/university in Computer Science or related field (Masters preferred)
  • Data warehouse certifications (or related DBMS technologies such as Azure Synapse Analytics, Databricks, SQL Server, etc.)
  • Experienced and/or certified with DBMS modeling tools
  • TOGAF 9.x certified. Experienced working with Enterprise Architecture tools such as Troux, Mega, Alfabet, Orbus


  • Minimum eight years’ experience as a Data Architect
  • Minimum fifteen years’ experience in delivery of enterprise systems and architectures
