Director - Desktop Architecture and Services

Job Summary & Objectives

The Director, Desktop Services is responsible for oversight of the Firm’s desktop environment, leading a team of Specialists in the maintenance and support of the firm’s desktop infrastructure, Remote Access Citrix platform and VMWare environment.

This role is responsible for development and administration an overall desktop strategy to support business operations within a complex technical infrastructure, ensuring best practices

across multiple application platforms.

 

Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage the Firm’s desktop environment, with a focus on asset management, software distribution & packaging, patch management, systems integration and application support
  • Evaluate IT policies, processes and procedures; identify trends; test and validate new processes and develop management strategy in support of the Firm’s desktop user requirements and security information guidelines
  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the desktop support staff; address escalations; coordinate with appropriate teams, departments and vendors as appropriate
  • Perform supervisory responsibilities including hiring, evaluating job performance, coaching and corrective action, training and career development
  • Maintain standard images for desktops and laptops, research alternatives and work with management team on enhancements, resolutions, disk and file encryption projects and initiatives
  • Manage deployment and inventory of end-user devices; oversee software distribution for desktops for both international and domestic offices; develop testing platforms and procedures in support of production releases
  • Recommend and develop global hardware and software standards
  • Review and test new software requests for installation, document integration and plan deployment; make recommendations for improvements
  • Lead and provide the implementation and support of Citrix-based systems; develop and enhance remote access computing solutions consistent with the Firm standards; provide training on applications or procedures to Desktop Technicians and end-users. when required
  • Establish global images, maintain management of platforms such as SCCM, PXE, and Mac
  • Provide training on applications to Desktop Services Technicians, User Support and end-users when needed
  • Ensure software compliance
  • Provide budget, technical documentation, deliverables on projects to Director as needed
  • Identify, isolate and resolve escalated issues; liaise with User Support staff to implement immediate resolutions to critical problems; train and/or create tip sheets as needed
  • Research, plan, install, configure, troubleshoot, maintain and upgrade various applications and software for end-user environments. (example: local OS and VDI)
  • Work with IT teams to ensure technology process and support integration follow firm and security guidelines globally
  • Develop and document standards related to package creation, patching, infrastructure
  • Create queries and reports to support business functions and audit requests
  • Develop and maintain, configuration management; SCCM or similar tools
  • Responsible for oversight of policy updates; patch management; software and hardware standards
  • Configure and manage software Package Distribution via SCCM
  • Attend IT Operations related meetings with prepared status report and updates
  • Manage designated IT vendor relationships
  • Stay abreast of industry trends through seminars, publications and peer groups
  • Perform other duties as assigned

 

 

Skills and Experience

Required

  • 6 to 10 years of relevant experience required
  • SCCM Imaging, Packaging and Deployment
  • Patch Management
  • Virtualization with Citrix and VDI
  • Windows Desktops 7, 10; MS Office 365
  • Experience running Citrix XenDesktop and/or VMware VDI
  • Experience with SCCM, package development, Windows OS and Group Policy
  • Experience in creating and deploying images
  • Experienced with asset management tools and techniques
  • Must possess proven analytical ability and high-level technical background
  • Highly developed analysis and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to prioritize and complete project tasks within required deadlines
  • Experience in monitoring operations and providing related metrics
  • Ability to communicate technology design issues to technical and non-technical audiences
  • Ability to effectively communicate information verbally and in writing and present information to individuals or groups
  • Ability to be sensitive to cultural differences among individuals and groups of persons
  • Ability to manage multiple high priority initiatives in a fast paced, highly technical environment managing large scale IT projects across global IT environments
  • Demonstrated organization, change management and leadership skills
  • Ability to effectively supervise and train personnel
  • Ability to apply principles of logical thinking to define problems, conduct analysis and needs assessments and draw valid conclusions
  • Expertise in Altiris Notification Server & Deployment Solution, Citrix systems and Symantec Endpoint Protection or equivalent
  • Must have a fundamental knowledge of cross platform environments, desktop/device related systems and software; Active Directory applications
  • Must exhibit a strong technical aptitude and excellent communication skills with the ability to work effectively across a multitude of technical and non-technical groups

 

Preferred

  • Proven technical proficiency through industry certifications a plus
  • Experience with Cloud administration a plus

 

Education

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT or related technical field required
