Meet Allison Junquera! Allison is the Director of Executive Search at Benchmark IT. She is an accomplished IT Recruiter, Account Manager, and Director. She provides excellent service to both clients and candidates and manages internal teams. We had the great opportunity to sit down with Allison and discuss how she got into technology staffing, the excitement of working with clients and staff, and why she makes her career with Benchmark IT.
What got you into technology staffing?
My current position at Benchmark IT is Director of Executive Search. I am a hands-on manager, so I work directly with both candidates and clients making matches between both parties. I also assist with my client’s consulting needs. I am responsible for overseeing the training, job order management, and meeting/exceeding the revenue goals for the Executive Search practice area, as well.

Early in my career, I was in various sales roles in the Hospitality and Telecom industries and eventually worked for a software start-up company. It was the software start-up which led me further into the technology industry which I believe was inevitable, as the internet was booming in the late 90’s. I was very excited to learn more about it. I also was very interested in recruiting at that time. Coincidentally, when I was in college, I had completed an internship at the department of labor where I had the responsibility of matching candidates to civil service jobs. It was the only internship they had available that allowed me to work with people, since I was initially interested in the hospitality industry. It was funny how my passion of helping people with their careers had been something I’d been exposed to by accident in college.
What do you think is exciting about working with clients and staff on their technology?
The most exciting thing for me is knowing that technology is always changing and there’s always something new to learn. I am a person who loves to learn on a daily basis and being able to keep up with all of the new and emerging technologies allows me to do that. I find it especially interested to learn about different challenges clients have. Most of their challenges end up to be quite similar. While I’ve never written a lick of code I do enjoy helping them find solutions through the personnel resources I provide.

With technology constantly evolving, I need to keep up with all of the new trends and learn about all of the new technologies that are coming out. It’s an everchanging and robust industry where it’s impossible to be bored. My husband (who is an IT Executive) always says “If you are standing still, you’re moving backwards.”
The most rewarding part of my career is finding someone their perfect job. I really get to know my candidates well. You develop close relationships with people in this role. Finding someone their dream job or helping someone after they’ve been downsized and really struggling financially is the best feeling. I’ve had instances where I’ve placed candidates in their very first job and now, many years later, I’m able to see how much they have grown and how senior they have become in their roles because we are still in touch (or maybe they are even one of my client’s now).

What is it about Benchmark IT that makes you want to come into work every day?
Benchmark is a small environment and we are very collaborative. It is a true team environment. I feel we all share the same values here. We treat people with respect and are always ethical in our process. Of course, mistakes happen from time to time but they are never intentional.
