What got you into IT staffing?
After graduating college, I wasn’t 100% sure what I wanted to pursue. After leaving my first job post-graduation, I took a recruiting job at a staffing company and I got a really good feel for recruitment. I found that I really enjoyed managing expectations and working with people from all walks of life.
After some time, I decided I wanted to find my future and pursue other career opportunities in staffing. I hadn’t worked in IT staffing, but I knew that IT was heading in a positive direction. From there, I made the switch into the IT recruiting space in San Francisco, CA. With this location being one of the greatest tech hubs in the world, I was able to work as a technical recruiter like I had envisioned for myself.
Growing up, I wanted to be an engineer but went down the entrepreneurial path in college. I saw a lot of value in technical roles such as engineering, and it was one of the biggest reasons why I wanted to go into technology staffing and eventually go on to work for Benchmark.
What do you think is the most exciting about working with clients and staff?
There is never a dull moment when working with clients and my team members. I find that sometimes in a role things can be a little stagnant; however, this is not the case in my current role at Benchmark. Being a Senior Technical Recruiter keeps you on your toes working with a wide variety of people and companies. I’ve always seen myself as someone who provides solutions, whether in recruitment or business in general. This allows me to stay motivated and makes my role very exciting. Working with our great clients and staff is just an added plus to why I find this job exciting.
Not only is my job in IT staffing exciting, but it’s also rewarding at times. My very first placement at Benchmark was with a Director of IT and he was having some struggles finding a job despite being a high-level technical professional. I can only imagine how stressful that process is, especially when you have a family to support. Being able to help him find his dream job so soon after starting my own job was an incredible experience. In those instances, that feeling is more rewarding that the money itself. I’m able to develop great personal relationships with the people I work with, and it’s been a great experience so far.
What is it about Benchmark IT that makes you want to (virtually) come into work every day?
Although I do wish I could work with everyone in the office, working virtually has been great too. The people I work with at Benchmark are great and we all work very well together as a team. I never dread working because the environment is so welcoming.
