IT Director – Nonprofit Healthcare (Onsite Middletown, NY)
About the Role
Our client, a mission-driven healthcare and nonprofit organization, is seeking a Director of Information Technology & Health Systems to lead enterprise technology operations and healthcare systems strategy.
This senior-level leadership role combines hands-on technical expertise with strategic oversight, ensuring technology supports operational excellence, regulatory compliance, and high-quality care delivery. The Director will oversee enterprise infrastructure, cybersecurity, IT operations, and Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems while partnering closely with clinical, administrative, and executive leadership.
This is a fully onsite position in Middletown, NY.
Key Responsibilities
Technology Leadership & Strategy
- Develop and execute the organization’s IT strategy in alignment with operational goals and long-term growth.
- Partner with executive leadership on digital transformation initiatives, technology investments, and process improvements.
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, service delivery, and user experience through technology.
Infrastructure & IT Operations
- Oversee enterprise IT infrastructure including networks, servers, endpoints, backups, and cloud systems.
- Ensure systems remain secure, scalable, and highly available.
- Manage day-to-day IT operations including helpdesk support, device management, onboarding/offboarding, and vendor coordination.
Healthcare Technology & EHR Systems
- Lead administration and optimization of EHR platforms and supporting clinical applications.
- Partner with clinical teams to align technology with care workflows, reporting requirements, and operational needs.
- Drive interoperability, data integrity, and system usability across healthcare systems.
Cybersecurity, Governance & Compliance
- Maintain strong IT governance practices including cybersecurity, access controls, disaster recovery, and business continuity planning.
- Ensure compliance with healthcare security and privacy standards, including HIPAA.
- Develop and maintain IT policies, procedures, and risk mitigation strategies.
Leadership & Vendor Management
- Lead and mentor a small, high-performing IT team.
- Manage third-party vendors and service providers, ensuring quality, cost-efficiency, and contract performance.
- Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and strong customer service.
Required Experience
- 8+ years of progressive IT experience, including hands-on infrastructure management.
- 3+ years leading enterprise IT operations and technical teams.
- Experience supporting or managing Electronic Health Record (EHR) platforms such as Epic, Netsmart, NextGen, or similar systems.
- Strong understanding of enterprise infrastructure, cybersecurity, cloud systems, backups, patch management, and endpoint support.
- Working knowledge of HIPAA compliance and healthcare security standards.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Information Systems, or related field.
- Experience leading IT initiatives in healthcare, nonprofit, or highly regulated environments.
- Industry certifications such as PMP, ITIL, Azure, or related credentials.
- Experience managing multiple initiatives in fast-paced, mission-driven organizations.
