IT Security Consultant Spotlight: Steve Csordas

This week, our Consultant Spotlight showcases Steve Csordas, a great technology IT security consultant and friend of Benchmark IT. Steve works in IT Security and Regulatory Compliance for a print and communications services company. We recently spoke to Steve about how he got into technology, his favorite project, and why he relies on Benchmark IT to help advance his career. Continue reading to find out more!

What got you into technology?
I graduated from Fairfield University with a degree in Economics. While obtaining my degree, I also took programming classes. My university had recruitment on campus, and I was able to land interviews with IT companies looking for technology candidates. I was interested in the IT industry and was recruited as a programmer.

I always had a natural affinity towards music and, believe that eventually led me to programming. I decided to pursue it for the financial benefit, but quickly discovered that I truly enjoyed working in IT. I worked in application development, systems development, and programming for the first 20 years of my technology career. In 2000, I switched over to IT security and compliance. In my current role, I do both information security and regulatory compliance.

What was your favorite project you have worked on?
With every project I have worked on, I have tried to work in the moment. Therefore, the current project is always my favorite! Generally, I enjoy working on more complex projects. These projects have a lot of moving parts and details that you need to be aware of for a successful outcome.

Most of the work that I have greatly enjoyed involves four key points:
1) managing IT risks;
2) delivering projects that help the business grow;
3) linking business and IT strategies and plans; and
4) security and privacy.

More often than not, there’s a disconnect between business strategy and the delivery of IT services. As an IT security officer and compliance manager, I help ensure that IT standards and practices are in place to support business growth and safeguard critical assets, both in data and infrastructure. The points listed above are what I enjoy the most in any project, and I always look forward to the next one.
