Lead Application Support Engineer – Data & Analytics Platforms - Long-term Contract - Hybrid
Lead Application Support Engineer – Data & Analytics Platforms
Long-term contract | Hybrid, 3 Days/week onsite (Tue, Wed, Thur)
Are you a strong application developer or data engineer who enjoys solving difficult production problems?
We are seeking two experienced technical leads to support a portfolio of business-critical data and analytics applications used by employees around the world. These are highly visible, long-term consulting roles (24 mo +) with a large, global organization.
This is not a help-desk position or an operations-management role. You will remain hands-on, investigating complex application and data problems, identifying their underlying causes, and working with engineering teams to implement lasting solutions.
What You’ll Do
-
Serve as the senior technical escalation point for challenging application and data-processing issues.
-
Investigate failures involving large datasets, complex transformations, slow performance, incomplete processing, and inconsistent results.
-
Use SQL, Python/PySpark, Databricks, and Azure tools to trace problems through applications and data pipelines.
-
Determine whether an issue originates in application logic, data quality, database performance, configuration, integration, or cloud services.
-
Review queries, stored procedures, execution plans, indexing, notebooks, and processing logic.
-
Help resolve issues involving file uploads, cloud storage, data movement, and backend application services.
-
Partner with application developers, data engineers, product teams, and support analysts to address root causes—not simply close tickets.
-
Create practical diagnostic tools, troubleshooting guides, and runbooks that help the broader support team resolve problems more effectively.
-
Coach other analysts while continuing to perform hands-on technical work.
What We’re Looking For
The strongest candidates will have a solid application-development or data-engineering background and have used that experience to troubleshoot complex production systems.
You should bring:
-
Approximately 8 or more years of experience in application development, data engineering, production support, or a combination of these areas.
-
Experience supporting important applications in a large, complex enterprise environment.
-
Strong hands-on SQL skills, including diagnosing poorly performing queries, stored procedures, functions, indexing, and execution plans.
-
Practical experience with Python or PySpark and the ability to understand and troubleshoot existing code.
-
Experience working with Databricks and Azure-based data environments.
-
A strong understanding of databases, data pipelines, ETL processes, and high-volume data processing.
-
Experience resolving problems that cross application, database, integration, and infrastructure boundaries.
-
The communication skills to explain a technical issue clearly to developers, support teams, and business stakeholders.
-
The judgment and persistence to own a difficult problem through root-cause identification and permanent resolution.
Helpful, but Not Required
Experience with any of the following would be valuable:
-
Azure Data Factory or SSIS
-
Azure Data Lake Storage
-
Delta Lake and Parquet
-
SQL Server data warehouses
-
AKS or other container-based application environments
-
Power BI or Alteryx
-
ERP data from SAP or Oracle
-
Audit, accounting, or financial datasets
You do not need experience with every tool listed above. We are most interested in candidates who have strong application and data fundamentals and can demonstrate how they have solved difficult, high-impact production problems.
Why This Opportunity Stands Out
-
Long-term, stable consulting engagement
-
Technically challenging work with large-scale applications and datasets
-
Global user community and enterprise-level systems
-
High visibility with engineering and product leadership
-
Opportunity to influence how applications are supported and improved
-
Hands-on technical role with leadership responsibility
