After graduating from Williams College in the spring of 2021, Danny joined the Benchmark IT team. Although Danny originally had plans to work in advertising or marketing, he is grateful that his path led him to have a technical recruiting career. After his first year, Danny has expanded his technology recruitment skills, learned a lot about technology and is excited for his future with Benchmark IT.

We had the opportunity to chat with Danny about how he started his technical recruiting career, what he enjoys the most about his role, and working with Benchmark IT. Read on for more!

What made you interested in a technical recruiting career?

Prior to working at Benchmark IT, I was a teacher for a test prep class. I really enjoyed helping people and knew some teachers who had done recruiting previously, which made me consider going into it myself. As I was searching for recruiting positions, my friends recommended technology recruiting since they were all in IT positions themselves. While computer science wasn’t initially in my wheelhouse, I have enjoyed my first year in technical recruiting and feel that I am growing leaps and bounds as a professional in this space.

What do you find the most exciting about working with tech talent?

I love learning about what clients are looking for in their ideal candidates, the types of industries that people are looking for, and the required skillsets. Everyone has a different story and situation of where they are in their job search which makes this fascinating work. It seems as though there is always something to learn in this industry. There is no one-size-fits-all approach in this line of work.

What are the most in-demand areas in technology that you recruit for?

Right now, I mainly recruit for software development and data science positions and for the occasional project manager. So far, I’m enjoying learning about the qualifications of these roles and how to find the best fit.

What about Benchmark IT makes you want to come into work every day?

I truly feel that I am improving my skills every day and honing my IT technical interview questions. I have never gone home thinking I’ve had a bad day, because the learning is continuous, and the work is rewarding. Not everyone can say that, so I feel very lucky. I love the team and people at Benchmark IT – they are all extremely bright, happy, and friendly people. They provide the perfect balance of challenging me to grow and develop my technical recruiting career while providing a comfortable space to do so. I know I will continue to have massive growth in this role here and look forward to the fact that I can go home proud each day from not only my work, but because I also work for a company like Benchmark IT.

Do you have a favorite quote?

One of my favorite quotes is, “Anything that hurts this bad has got to be good for you” – Dick Farley. The track and field coach at my college said this and it has stuck with me ever since.

Is there anything else you’d like to share?

A fun fact about me is that I was the captain of my college frisbee team and since moving to Stamford I would like to join one of the local pickup leagues. I am still relatively new to the area, having moved here in March and I think it would be a great way to meet some new people.
